Columbia (27 April 1967)

A group of friends and relatives gathered at the Moonlite Inn Saturday evening in honor of the birthday of Clarence Fox. Present were Mr. and Mrs. George Mashin, their son, Donald, Mrs. Joyce Jolivette, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mashin and children, Mrs. Schmidt, Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Fox and the Clarence Fox family.

The Robert Mashins and the Clarence Foxes, who live in northern Illinois, had driven through the tornado-devastated area on their way here. They described the debris and the wreckage spread over a wide area, and the smashed and completely demolished homes of residents. In Barrington more than 30 homes were reported destroyed by the high winds.

Mr. and Mrs. George Poertner assisted their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley A. Pekol, move their household furnishings from their rooms in Neillsville to the former John Urban farm, west of Neillsville on Highway 10. The Pekol’s have purchased the property.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mashin and children came Friday evening to spend the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Mashin, and other relatives.

Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Ebert of Black River Falls were Sunday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Mashin.

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Fox and family of Barrington, Ill., visited her mother, Mrs. Schmidt, of the Shortville area, over the weekend.

Mrs. Kate Van Horn of Humbird is visiting her sister, Emma Sollberger.

Mrs. George Mashin and Tarra visited Georgeana Schulz Thursday afternoon.

Perry Larson, who died at his home last week Tuesday morning, was buried Friday beside the graves of his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Larson, in the Columbia Cemetery. Perry attended the old Sunny Nook School and grew to manhood in this area. The Larson home was located south of the old Columbia depot.
