From Our Own Reporter

Weather fine, ten inches of snow.

The name of our new country is Dixon, county seat, Colby perhaps.

Phillips & Colby have given the town 40 acres of land for road purposes.

Amsa, son of J. S. Edminster, fell on the ice and broke his collar bone. Dr. Hubwell of Medford is attending him.

Miss Grace, from Grand Rapids, is going to teach music here this winter. We think she will meet with good success, as we are all musically inclined.

The officers of Colby Lodge No. 234 O.O.O.F., were publically installed Saturday evening, by D.D.G. M., John Patzer, from Wausau, assisted by J. McEwen. They reported out lodge is in good condition. Come again, “we commenced to like you.”

Found, at the Colby House, in a room occupied by two Wausau gentlemen, a silver hunting case watch. Value about $60. The landlord says he has no claims on the watch at both gentlemen paid their bills. Watch is in our possession, and the party owning it will prove property, pay charges, and take it away.

Sheriff Ghoca went to Spencer yesterday to attach a yoke of cattle. He goes there again today to attach property belonging to Robinson & Co., to the amount of $750. Our lawyers, J. D. Wicker, Sr., and C. F. Grow have gone down there to give them a breeze of Colby eloquence. Spencerians, look out for your hats and pocket books.

Alas for Colby, her hopes have again been doomed to sudden disappointment. In my last letter I spoke with pride of the advent in out little town of a newspaper. Our citizens made investments on the strength of it, so did the editor. Clouds began to gather, and a change came over the spirit of our dreams. Press did not arrive, but editor left, down the track, we suppose to look after a press. Sheriff Ghoca went too. Found Pyle at Spencer, persuaded him to return, came back the same night, left overcoat, hotel bill, saloon bill etc. We believe he left sufficient clothing to pay board bill, and presume his is comfortably situated at the Newhall House by this time. He has a pass over the W.C.R.R. We have concluded not to publish a paper at Colby at present.
