The class of 1927, Colby High School, held its 50th reunion Sunday, May 29, 1977 at the VFW Clubhouse. Noel Schelling, class president, was master of ceremonies.

Those attending were: Esther Fricke, Hazel Riplinger, Anna (Lukowicz) La Fond, Hazel (Allman) Morgan, Clarence Hein, Norma (Frome) Scholl, Hattie (Young) Gordie, Betty (Wetmore) Pankers, Ruth Costello, Ray Gries, Oliver Kesler, M. C. Kelly, Malcolm Lamont. Two former teachers also attended. They were M. Kelly and Ruth Costello. Mrs. Harry Bender, Colby, was also a guest.

Bio: Heindl, Rev. Francis – 25th Anniversary as a Priest (May 1977)

Nearly 200 relatives and friends attended the mass and reception honoring the Rev. Francis Heindl, La Cross, honoring his 25th anniversary to the priesthood. The mass was celebrated at St. Louis Catholic Church at Dorchester at 2.p.m., by Rev. Heindle, and his brother, the Rev. Arthur Heindl, Lime Ridge, assisted. Wilfred Heindl, a cousin, was lector at the mass. Five nephews, Daniel, Charles, Thomas, William and Michael Heindl, were mass servers; five nieces, Diane, Betty, Charlene, Mary Ann and Rita Heindl, carried the offertory gifts. Kathleen Heindl, a niced, played the baritone in the choir. The reception was held in the church hall following the mass. Several priests from the La Crosse Diocese attended the event, including three former pastors of St. Louis Church, the Rev. Gerald Schuh, Eau Claire, the Rev. Donald Berg, Milladore, and the Rev. Jacob Burggraf, Spencer.

The Rev. Heindl was born February 29, 1928, in the Town of Holton, near Dorchester. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Nick Heindl. He received his elementary education here at St. Louis School, and his religious education at St. Nazianz St. John’s Seminary in Minnesota, and the Catholic University in Washington, D.C. He was ordained by the Most Rev. John P. Treacy, Bishop of La Crosse, at Holy Cross Seminary in La Crosse on May 31, 1952.

Following his ordination, the Rev. Heindl taught at Holy Cross Seminary, and also served as procurator for the seminary. In 1968 he became secretary to the bishop and has served in that capacity since that time. He has also served as director of the Laymen Retreat Movement, and at present time is the Diocesan Director of Cemeteries.

Besides his brother, the Rev. Arthur Heindl, Father Francis has three other brothers in the Dorchester area. They are Bernard, Urban, and James. He also has a sister, Mrs. Clarence (Helen) Riegert, in Marshfield. An uncle, Andrew Heindl, Kaukauna, also attend the anniversary observance, as did many relatives through areas of the state.

St. Agnes Circle of the Rosary Society was in charge of the lunch, which was served in the church hall.
