Bertz, John "Jack" (School Board Candidate - 1967)

John (Jack) Bertz, 38, attended both Loyal parochial and public schools and graduated from Loyal High School in 1946 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology in 1950 from St. Norbert College, De Pere.

In 1951, he operated a 210-acre dairy farm northeast of Loyal and purchased the farm in 1953. Elected vice chairman of Clark County ASC committee in 1954; farmed and served in this position until October, 1957. At that time was hired by the farmer-elected ASC committee as office manager for the county. ASC administers farm programs. He received awards in 1959 and 1966 as the outstanding county office in the state. He moved to Neillsville later that year.

He was married to the former Jane Smith in 1950 at Loyal. The family, residing at 312 East Fourth Street, consists of Peter, the eldest, a Neillsville High School freshman; Paul and Lauren, sixth graders; Phillip, a fifth grader; and Patrick a fourth grader at St. Mary’s School. The family, are parishioners of St. Mary’s congregation.

The Neillsville Public School system has done a commendable task of educating their children.

Credit is due to the people of the school district for electing responsible representatives to the school board and selection of school officials. Primary emphasis has been placed on the education of the child, which I fully agree with. Other school activities assist in rounding out our younger generation in becoming trustworthy and outstanding citizens. If elected to this responsible position, I will do my best to fulfill the desires of the electors for the welfare and betterment of our children, school system and community.
