Benson, Benjamin J. (7 August 1874 - 25 January 1967)

Benjamin J. Benson, 92, of Neillsville, died here January 25. Funeral services were held Saturday from the Georgas Funeral Home. The Rev. W. C. Koehler of the United Church of Christ officiated. The body was taken to Menomonie for burial in the Cedar Falls Cemetery.

Mr. Benson was born August 7, 1874, in Elk Mound, where he also received his education. He worked for several years for the Chicago and North Western Railroad, and later was engaged in the hardware business, having operated a store in McHenry, N. D. He came to Neillsville in 1940 and was the owner of a hardware store here before retiring in 1951.

His marriage to the former Elizabeth Downing took place July 12, 2897, in Eau Claire. She died in 1966.

He is survived by a brother, Henry C. Benson of Eau Claire; and two grandchildren, Robert Sommers of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Fred (Barbara) Bernatz of Hamilton, Mont.

Pallbearers were: Glenn Roberts, Donald W. Johnson, Wayne Grap, Henry Thomsen, Jess W. Scott and Charles E. Anderson.

Wilfred Galstad sang, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Abide with Me” accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott.

People from out of town here for the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Henry C. Benson of Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Rubyor of Rice Lake; Robert Sommers of Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Fred Bernatz of Hamilton, Mont.; Mr. and Mrs. David Danielson and Arendt Danielson of Greenwood.
