Several of the lumbermen along the line of the Central, have dispared of getting sufficient snow to enable them to supply their mill, are now turning their attention to the subject of tramways, some of which have already been commenced.

Mr. Edminster of Colby has commenced one, which is to be four miles long. J. J. Kennedy at Spencer is putting in another as are McMillan Bros. at Manville also.

Several cars or trucks are now being made at the foundries of Seyler & Cook and J. Rice & Brother, in this city (Stevens Point).

The cars cost about $60 each, and the expense of building the tramway is variously estimated at from $50 to $150 per mile. The wheels of the trucks are cast concave, the “rail” upon which they are to be run consisting of a log about six inches in diameter - which are said to make a good track when the bark is taken off. Each truck is supplied with a brake. The trucks are made five feet wide.
