Peterson, John (15 SEP 1855 - 29 NOV 1942)

Funeral Services For John Peterson
Was Former Soldier in Danish Army; Came to Wisconsin In 1881 and Moved On Farm Near Spencer In 1895.

John Peterson was born in Denmark on Sept. 15, 1855 and there he grew to manhood, serving in the Danish Army. In 1881 he came to America and settled at Waupaca, Wis. On March 15, 1887 he was married to Sophia Anderson of Oshkosh, living there for about three years. They moved to Kimberly, Wis., where he worked in the saw mill. In 1895 they moved on a farm southeast of Spencer, now known as the H. W. Schwantes farm. There they lived until the fall of 1910, when they moved to Spencer. He was the janitor of the Spencer State bank for many years.

Grandpa Peterson was well known and loved by everyone that knew him. He was in good health until this fall, but it was not believed he was seriously afflicted. On Sunday, Nov. 29 at 9:30 o’clock he passed away at his home. Old age complications caused his death.

Mr. Peterson had reached the age of 87 years, two months and 14 days. Two children were born to this union, one daughter passing away in infancy, and his wife and son, Nels Peterson of spencer survive, as does four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the Swarthout Funeral home with burial in the Spencer cemetery. Rev. Ellory Beal was in charge of the services. Pall bearers were Wm. Kommer, Fred Stargardt, Fred Below, Fred Larson, Albert Martin and Henry Reas. Flower attendants were Mrs. Stargardt and Mrs. Elliott.
