SPENCER NEWS

Miss Gertrude Andrews left last Thursday for Washington, D. C., to visit her brotherinlaw and sister, Mr. and Mrs. John Roith and family.

Mr. and Mrs. John Hess entertained Henry Freund, a cousin of Mrs. Hess, and a friend Art Brockman of Madison from Tuesday until Thursday of last week.

A birthday surprise party was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Shupe Monday evening, Mr. Shupe being the honored guest. Invited guests were Mr. and Mrs. Otto Roehl, Mrs. Caroline Horn and son, Dale; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Horn and son, Billy Lee; Mr. and Mrs. Lige Niman, all of Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. John Holzschuh, Mrs. Anna Fredricks and Mrs. Augusta Boyer. Cards furnished the enjoyment of the evening after which lunch was served.

Mr. and Mrs. John Orgish and Harold Walterbach spent Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Walterbach of Wausau.

Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Swartout entertained Mrs. Joe Miller and daughter, Antoinette, and Jack Miller and son of Dorchester Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Hermanson and family spent Sunday at Marshfield with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hermanson and Mrs. E. E. Simmons and children.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Plath and son, Orin and Miss Arline Steinwegner of Marshfield were Sunday dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Luetke at Wausau.

Harold Walterbach, John Neumann and Arthur Gustman went to Milwaukee Monday for U. S. Army examinations. Mr. Walterbach took his 14-day furlough and will resign his teaching position in the Spencer schools preparatory to go to Fort Sheridan.

Mr. and Mrs. Guy Ingham and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Whittingham of Arpin returned Sunday from an eighteen day business trip through the states of Minnesota, Colorado, Idaho, Utah, Iowa and Wisconsin where they visited fur farmers and fur farms. During their absence Mr. and Mrs. Valmore Schillman of Marshfield kept house for the Inghams.
