Meske, Harry (27 AUG 1908 - 11 MAY 1961)

Funeral services were held at St. Bernard’s Church in the City at 9:30 o’clock Monday morning, May 15, for Harry Meske, 52, who died suddenly of an acute heart attack at his home here on Thursday noon, May 11, 1961. The Requiem Mass was read by Father Herbert Hoffman, assisted by Father Francis Przybylski of Plover, Wis. and Father Chester Moczarny of Stevens Point, the latter two of whom were former pupils of Mr. Meske when he taught in the Posen School near Thorp.

The deceased was born on a farm in the Township of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) on Aug. 27, 1908. He had always lived in this community and received his education in the local schools, and after graduation from Thorp High School attended the Wis. State College at Eau Claire. He taught in the schools in this vicinity for twenty-four years and upon retiring from that profession in 1957 went into full time insurance business, which he had started in 1943.

He was united in marriage on Aug. 10, 1937 to Helen Hastreiter at St. Bernard’s Church in Thorp.

Mr. Meske served for several years as secretary and treasurer of the Thorp Lions Club, and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Bernard’s Holy Name Society and the Thorp Moose Lodge.

Besides his wife, Helen, he is survived by one son, John, 13, and one daughter, Barbara, 11; a brother George Meske of Thorp and a sister, Mrs. MargaretMueller of Chicago. His parents and one brother, Frank, preceded him in death.

Interment took place in St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Pallbearers were Herbert Simet, D.D. Stookey, Joe Meske, George Schmidt, Alex Neiman of Wausau, and George Lorentz of Chicago.
