Bethe, Henry (2 January 1879 - 27 April 1966)

 

Funeral services for Henry Bethe, 87, of Neillsville, who died April 27 in Neillsville, were held Saturday afternoon from St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.  The Rev. Norman W. Lindloff officiated. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

 

Mr. Bethe was born January 2, 1879, in Germany where he received some of his education. At the age of 12 he came with his parents to the United States.  The family located in Milwaukee, where Mr. Bethe attended St. Mathew’s School.

 

He was married December 21, 1901, to the former Alvina Lentz, who died in 1935.  Mr. Bethe was employed as a clerk for the Chicago and Northwestern Railway for 40˝ years. He retired in 1943, moving to Neillsville in 1944.

 

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Harley (Elva) Klitzkie of Jefferson; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Hazel Bethe of Milwaukee; two sisters, Miss Augusta Bethe of Packwaukee and Mrs. Julia DeLonge of Waukesha; and by two brothers, Arthur of Milwaukee and Albert of Packwaukee. Other survivors include seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

 

He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville.

 

Pallbearers were: Albert Mashin, Albert Marks, Alvin and Paul Jacob, Albert Wilson and Albert Dahnert.

 

Funeral arrangements were made by the Georgas Funeral Home.

 

"Asleep in Jesus" and "Who Knows When Death may overtake me?" were sung by Kendall Smith who was accompanied at the organ by Victor Lehmann.

 

People from out of town attending the service included: Mr. and Mrs. Harley Klitzkie of Jefferson; Mr. and Mrs. Olen Millard of Whitewater; Noel Bethe of Grafton; Mrs. Hazel Bethe, Mrs. Robert Steib, Mrs. Max Kaschner, of Milwaukee; Mrs. Julia DeLonge, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Delong and Harold DeLong of Waukesha; Miss Augusta Bethe and Albert Bethe of Packwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Dale Dooge of Stratford; Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Swarthout and Mrs. Ida Seefeldt of Spencer.
