McCredden, Daniel John (7 July 1931 - 12 April 2012) With Flag

 

Daniel J. McCredden, age 80, of Thorp, passed away at his home on Thursday, April 12, 2012. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday April 16, 2012 at Faith Evangelical Free Church in Stanley.  Pastor Randy Van De Loo officiated and burial followed in East Thorp Cemetery.  Pallbearers were: Tim, Chris, Ryan, and Jon McCredden, Ethan and Brandon Turenne. Visitation was held at Thorp Funeral Home on Sunday April 15, 2012, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

 

Daniel John McCredden was born on July 7, 1931, in Cataract, WI, the son of William and Marie (Abbott) McCredden.  He was raised on a farm and received his elementary education in Sparta area schools. He graduated from Milwaukee Boy’s Tech High School in 1949. After graduation from high school, Daniel enlisted in the U. S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. During his enlistment, he was united in marriage to Rose Marie Schuler on December 29, 1950, in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

 

After his honorable discharge they returned to Milwaukee, where he attended accounting school for one year.  He then was employed by the railroad, where he worked for two years, before becoming employed with the post office as a mail carrier.  In August 1968, Daniel bought a farm and moved to Thorp, WI.  He served as a mail carrier in Wisconsin Rapids, and later was a postmaster in Pickerel, WI and later in Withee, WI, before retiring in 1988.

 

Daniel loved spending time with his family and working in his vegetable garden.  He was previously a volunteer teacher at the Gilman Baptist School, taught Sunday school at Faith Free Evangelical Church for 20+ years, and was a member of the Thorp American Legion Post #118.

 

He is survived by his wife, Rose, of Thorp; three children: Kathy (Scott) Turenne of Stanley, Tim (Natalie) of Thorp, and Erin (David) Kuhlman of Thorp; nine grandchildren; Jewel, Sadie, Ryan, Brandon, Jon, Ethan, Brianne, Christ and Jean; eight great-grandchildren: Cael, Isabella,  Brenna, McKenzie, Aisling, Jack, Lydia and Molly; one daughter-in-law Angie McCredden of Thorp; five siblings: Pete McCredden of Sparta, Judy (Ralph) Baxter of Fort Wayne, IN, Ruthie (Kerry) Buettke of Alamogordo, NM, Dennis (Nadine) McCredden of Lake Geneva, WI, and Priscilla (Charlie) Sciosci of Hobbs, NM; two sisters-in-law: Mary McCredden of Sparta and Brenda McCredden of Milwaukee; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Patrick McCredden on September 20, 1998; three brothers: Wilson, Michael and Philip McCredden; and three sisters: Rosella Ross and Lois and Mary McCredden in infancy.
