Andrew & Mary (Flint) Wing

Andrew was born in Oswego, N.Y., 4 Dec 1832, the son of Joseph Kellsey and Lydia (Brown) Wing. In Adulthood, he located in New Chester, Adams Co., Wis. where he married Amanda/Almeda A. Hartson, 5 Nov 1856.  She was born 22 Apr 1840 in Kishwaukee, IL.  The Wings had 6 children: Martin Luther Wing of Neillsville (m. Nellie Scott), Mrs. Clara Winchester, who passed away 15 Sep 1909, Emily (George) Bell of Oxford, Mrs. Chas. Page of Endeavor, Ida E. (James Thomas) Wedding of Neillsville who was born 3 Apr 1870, and Estella A. (Henry) Nelson of Oxford, WI.

Andrew served in the Civil War with both Co. G. 19th and Co. D 38th Wis. Inf.  He enlisted 11 Feb 1862, was discharged for a disability and reenlisted 31 Mar 1864, then was transferred out 24 Apr 1865.

After his wife died 28 Mar 1878, he moved to Clark County in the spring of 1879 and located in the town of West Weston, living there until the fall of 1903.  Later he married Mary Jane, the daughter of John and Eva Flint.  She was born in Onondaga, NY, 19 Jul 1840 and moved with them to WI as a small child.  She first married George Henry Forbush at Beaver Dam, WI, 28 May 1859.  She and Geo. had 8 children, 6 sons and 2 daughters.  Her second marriage to Andrew Wing took place 5 Jul 1878.  One daughter, Laura Moffat of Hewettville, was born to them Oct 1866 in Spring Bluff, WI.  In their senior years, Andrew and Mary lived in Neillsville.  When his health declined, he moved to the Veterans' Home to the Maston Hall, 13 Oct 1903.  The next month Mary was also admitted, 3 Nov 1903.  Andrew was well thought of by his comrades and by all that knew him.  He passed away on the morning of Dec. 28, 1915 in the hospital at the Veterans' Home and was buried in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, King, Waupaca, Wisconsin, Sec. 3, Lot 19, Grave 19.  Mary died 27 May 1916 and was buried in the Neillsville, WI City Cemetery.

Research Notes

Old Soldiers Home, Waupaca, Andrew & Mary Wing--Our records indicate Andrew was admitted to the Wis. Veterans Home on Oct 13, 1903, from Neillsville, WI. He listed his age at that time as 71 with a birth date of Dec. 4, 1832 in Oswego, NY. Andrew served as a Private in Co. G of the 19th Wis. Volunteer Infantry and in the 38th Wis. Infantry. He listed his date of entry as Feb. 11, 1862 and his date of discharge as April 2, 1865. Andrew passed away on December 28, 1915, and is buried in Central Wisconsin Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in King.  Our records show Mary Wing was admitted to the Wis. Veterans Home from Clark County on Nov 3, 1903. She listed her age as 64 and her place of birth as New York. She indicated her date of marriage to Andrew was in 1878. She indicated it was a second marriage for her. Our records show Mary discharged from the Wis. Veterans Home on May 15, 1916. We have no record of where she went.
