Bennetts, Wendell (1894 - 1982)


Rev. Wendell Bennetts, a former pastor of the Loyal United Methodist Church, died at the Wild Rose Hospital, on Sunday, April 25, 1982 at 2 p.m.

Services for Rev. Bennetts were on April 29, at the Methodist Church in Plainfield. A Legion service and interment were at the Plainfield Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Randy Christensen, Jim Christensen, Rev. Kevin Olsen, Lyle Reid, Clifford Banks and Merlin Trunks.

Wendell Bennetts was born on March 24, 1894, at Bessemer, Mich. to Phillip and Ida Bennetts. He was one of 12 children.

He married Zula Mae Johnson of Hammond on June 3, 1931. She died on Dec. 16, 1947. He later married Sylvia Emelia Christensen at the Congregational Church at Friendship on May 27, 1950.

Rev. Bennetts served many churches in Wisconsin. He was also active as Chaplain for the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans Organizations, was a promoter of Boy Scouts and a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star.

Surviving him are his wife four sisters, Mildred Pender of Grand Rapids, Mich., Gertrude Card of Largo, Fla., Florence Lupini of Iron Mountain, Mich., and Margaret Knutson of Columbus, Ohio two brothers, Chester of St. Louis, Mo. And Walter of Bessemer, Mich.

Taking part in the church services were Rev. Glenn Dunn, Friendship Rev. Lester Ott, Plainfield Rev. Gerald Christensen, Eau Claire and Revs. Gerald and Carol Christensen. The congregation sang. Hamilton Funeral Home, Hancock, handled funeral arrangements.
