Betz, Donald J. (1928 - 1982)


Services were held on Friday, April 16, at 1L30 p.m., for Donald J. Betz, 53, at Zion Lutheran Church, Granton, with the Rev. E. T. Keller officiating. Burial was in the Windfall Cemetery.

Organists were Michael Betz, son of the deceased, and Mrs. Roger Helm. Hymns were sung by the congregation.

Pallbearers were Daniel Hodge, Richard Carolfi, Ernest Zdun, Kipp Schlinsog, Dennis Paasch, and Korey Schillinger. Members of the Granton wrestling team were the honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Betz died at 5 p.m. on April 12 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, where he had been admitted on Wednesday. Death was attributed to an apparent heart attack.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter (Viva Gaskill) Betz, He was born Nov. 2, 1928, at Fort Wayne, Ind., and graduated from Elmhurst High school in Fort Wayne. He was employed by the Wabash Railroad Co. until moving to Pittsville in 1962. He then farmed and was supervisor at Marshfield Homes for 18 years. The family moved to Stratford in 1972, he was assessor for the Village of Stratford and also for the Town of Sherwood. The past three years were spent in the Town of Grant. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Granton.

He married the former Anna L. Mitchell on Dec. 30, 1948, in Huntington, Ind. She survives.

Other survivors are four sons, Donald D. Betz, Bruce David J. Betz, Marshfield Michael Betz, Waukesha and Doug S. Betz, at home one daughter, Miss Dinah L. Betz, Evanston, Wyo. and four grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Walter, in infancy a grandson, Jamie in infancy and his parents.
