Martinson, Peter (1853 - 1926)


Funeral services for the late Peter Martinson were held Sunday morning, the Rev. W. P. Powell of the Congregational church officiating, with a prayer at 10:30 o'clock at the home, followed by a service at the church.


Peter Martinson was born Sept. 22, 1853 in Norway, and in the year 1881 came to America, locating at Eau Claire. On Sept. 17, 1883 he was united in marriage to Miss Mathilda Ray. Following their marriage they moved to Badger Mills, at which place they resided for ten years. While at this place three children were born to them, Marin, Alfred and Mena. Leaving there they moved to Dells Mills, where they resided for a year, and moved to Owen, Clark County in the spring of 1895. One daughter, Josephine, was born to them here, and died at the age of fourteen years. Mr. Martinson was one of the pioneer citizens of the city, and built for his family one of the first homes. His body was laid to rest in the family lot at Riverside Cemetery. He leaves to mourn his demise, a widow, three children, two half brothers, and a sister who lives in Norway, and seven grandchildren.


Those from out of the city who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Martinson and children, Cyril, Bernard, Myron and Virginia Alfred Martinson, St. Paul Mr. and Mrs. Thos. E. Perry and son, Arthur, Chetek Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Perry, John Ray, Ole Ray, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Anderson and son, Raymond, Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Sorby, Miss Evelyn Sorby, Edward Gunderson, and Mr. and Mrs. Gerhart Gunderson, all of Eau Claire.


Mr. Martinson was a kind hearted man who did the best he could for those about him and will be sadly missed in the home. The family wish to express their thanks to their neighbors and friends for their kindnesses during his sickness and death, also for the beautiful floral offerings.
