Embke, Harold (1917 - 2001)

Harold Embke, 84, Neillsville, Clark County, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, in the Emergency Room of the Memorial Medical Center, Neillsville.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., on Monday, Oct. 1, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Neillsville. The Rev. Timothy Biebert officiated. Music was provided by Judy Trunkel, organist, and Melvin Nemitz, soloist. Interment was in the Neillsville City Cemetery, with military rites accorded by the Neillsville Veteran Council.

Harold Walter Embke was born on Sept. 21, 1917, in the town of Pine Valley, to William and Helen (nee Sorensen) Embke. He attended the Silver Crest Country School. When he was 14-years-old, his family moved to the town of York, where they farmed. He enlisted into the United States Army and served in World War II. Upon returning from service, he resumed farming in the town of York, and also did mechanical work. He married Florence Roehl on Nov. 7, 1958. They continued farming in the town of York until 1983. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Neillsville. He was a member of the Haugen-Richmond American Legion Post 73 in Neillsville and was a past member of the National Farmers Organization.

Survivors include his wife, Florence one son, William (Naomie) Wiesjahn, Onalaska three grandchildren, Nick Wiesjahn, Green Bay, Nicolee Wiesjahn, La Crosse, and Mindy, Milwaukee and one sister, Liz (Fritz) Stelter, Neillsville.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his step-mother, Mary.
