Schmidt, Gerald C. (1909 - 2001)

Gerald C. Schmidt, 91, Neillsville, died on Saturday, March 17, 2001, at the Memorial Medical Center, Neillsville. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, March 20, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Neillsville. The Rev. Woodrow Pace officiated. Interment was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Joe Brock, Jim Kraus, Mike Poziombke, Art Schill, Brad Schmidt, Dennis Syth, Kevin Syth, and Norman Wolf.

Gerald Cletus Schmidt was born on Nov. 28, 1909, in Monroe County, to Frank and Helena (nee Pulvermacher) Schmidt. He attended St. Mary's
Ridge School, where he was a mass server until they moved to Neillsville in 1924. He then sang in the choir for about 30 years. He married Frances Wolf in Bakersville in 1938. He was an usher at St. Mary's Catholic Church for many years. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and its treasurer for a long time. He was also a treasurer of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was a life member of the Royal Order of Moose and its treasurer for many years. He was employed at the Farmers Union for 40 years, and then was custodian of the Neillsville Parks Department for eight years when he retired.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Schmidt, Neillsville one daughter, Susan (Neal) Lonning, Neillsville one son, Gerald (Mary Ann) Schmidt, Fenton, Mich. one daughter-in-law, Judith Schmidt, Neillsville five grandchildren, David, Andrew, and Jeff Schmidt, and Kristen and Paul Lonning and one sister, Joann (Jim) Butterfield, Beaver Dam.

He was preceded in death by his parents two sons, Lee, in July 1955, and Brian, in May 1996 - 10 brothers and sisters and one grandson, Jason Schmidt.

The Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, assisted the family with arrangements.
