Shambaugh, Catherine H. (1916 - 2001)


Catherine H. Shambaugh, 84, Neillsville, died on Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at her daughter's home in Neillsville. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 1, from 6 to 9 p.m., at Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, and on Friday Feb. 2, from 10 to 11 a.m., at Calvary Lutheran Church, Neillsville. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. The Rev. James Gordon will officiate. Burial will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Anthony Redmond, Joseph Redmond, Adam Schmidt, Carl Schmidt, Mark Schmidt, Mike Schmidt, Jamie Shambaugh, and William Shambaugh.


Catherine Henderson MacKenzie was born on July 25, 1916, in Glasgow, Scotland, to Hector and Jesse Ann (nee MacDonald) MacKenzie. They moved to the United States in 1921, and settled in LaFayette, Ill. She attended LaFayette elementary and high school. She married Charles E. Shambaugh on Nov. 13, 1936, in Peoria, Ill. They lived in Kewanee, Ill., until moving to Neillsville in 1959. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Neillsville. She worked at Bryan's Old Folks Home, caring for residents. She spent several years working at Sammy Balls Restaurant and later at the Hacienda Supper Club. She lived to read and spend time with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


Survivors include her five children, Kenneth (Mary Ellen) Shambaugh, Annawan, Ill. Frank (Patricia) Shambaugh, Annawan, Ill. Ellen (Walter) Schmidt, Neillsville Linda (James) Redmond, Rockford, Ill. and Dean Shambaugh, Neillsville one sister, Jean (Franklin) Anderson, Atkinson, Ill. 19 grandchildren 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her parents her husband, Charles one sister and two grandsons.


Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, is assisting the family with arrangements.
