Craig, Thurman A. (1920 - 1990)


Thurman A. Craig, 70, Willard, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 1990, at his home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 30, 1990, at 11 a.m. at Rinka Funeral Home, Greenwood. Visitations will be from 4 - 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Rinka Funeral Home. Burial with full military rites will be in the Willard Cemetery.


Thurman A. Craig was born June 13, 1920, in Byrdstown, Tenn., to Winburn and Sarah (nee Storey) Craig.


He graduated from Wilkinson High School, Wilkinson, Ind., in 1938. He married Martha E. Brown Sept. 6, 1941, in Kennard, Ind. She preceded him in death May 26, 1990. He entered the military Feb. 7, 1942 and graduated from Isaac Delago Trade School, New Orleans, La., in 1942, in airplane mechanics as a crew chief. He served with the Army Air Corps in the China-India-Burma Theater with the 71st Liaison Squadron. He was discharged in July 1945, with a rank of 1st Sgt. Prior to the military service, he worked at Chrysler Corp., Anderson, Ind. After his discharge, he worked at the Shirley (Ind.) Canning Company. He farmed from 1946 - 1957 in Indiana and then moved to Wisconsin in Jan. 1957, and farmed in the Willard area.


He was a lifetime member of the Holstein Association, very active at the county level a past chairman of the Kow Kountry Klassic Holstein Sale a past president of the Clark County 4-H Executive Board a Clark County 4-H leader for 20 years a member of the Clark County Fair Board a member of the Clark County Farm Bureau Board a lifetime member of the National FFA Alumni, Greenwood Chapter, charter member charter member of the Greenwood-Loyal-Willard VGW Post 6220 member of the American Legion, Greenwood Psot 238 member of Masonic Temple, Shirley, Ind. Lodge 531 F AM.


Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Mary) Willis Dayton, Ohio Mrs. Craig (Sandra) Gordon, Marshfield Mrs. Fred (Linda) Waldburger, Lake Mills Mrs. Richard (Carol) Hyland, Manistique, Mich. Mrs. Jacob (Sarah) Trunkel, Willard and Mrs. David (Deborah) Krulz, Greenwood two brothers, Donald Craig, Shirley, Ind. and Herman Craig, Greenfield, Ind. three sisters, Mrs. Paul (Thelma) Broadwater, Lake Placid, Fla. Mrs. Ruby Faust, Sebring, Fla. and Mrs. Lynn (Ina) Akers, Anderson, Ind. and 14 grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Martha one sister, Mrs. Pete (Clarice) Armstrong, and one grandson in infancy.


Rinka Funeral Home, Greenwood, handled the arrangements.
