Roeber, Matt (1867 - 1953)


GREENWOOD, CLARK COUNTY--Matt Roeber, 86, retired Greenwood farmer died at the Marden Convalescent Home at 9 a.m. yesterday, Dec. 21, 1953, where he lived the last four years.


The body will repose at the Schiller Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church at Greenwood. The Rev. Charles Koch will officiate and burial will take place in the Greenwood Cemetery.


Mr. Roeber was born Feb. 14, 1867, in Germantown. He was married Feb. 24, 1904 to Mrs. Louisa Soefker, who died Dec. 9, 1949. In 1913 he moved to West Beaver in Clark County. He retired from farming in 1949 and came to Greenwood. After the death of his wife he moved to the Marden Convalescent Center.


He is survived by a stepson, George Thieland, Flint, Mich one brother, Henry Roeber, West Bend and three sisters, Mrs. Lillian May and Miss Millie Roeber, San Francisco and Mrs. Agnes Abilings, Milwaukee. One brother, Charles, of Loyal, and a stepdaughter, Mrs. Lena Phrone, preceded him in death.
