Stabnow, Rachel (1882 - 1959)


GREENWOOD--Mrs. Rachel Stabnow, 77, Greenwood, Clark County, died Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 17, 1959, at the Havenet Nursing Home in Owen, where she had been a patient a week. Prior to that time she had been a patient for one and a half years at the Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home in Neillsville.


Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday by the Rev. E. H. Ratzloff in the Greenwood Gospel Mission Church. Burial is to be made in Greenwood Cemetery.


The body will lie in state at the Hill Funeral Home beginning Thursday afternoon.


The former Rachel Ward was born Nov. 15, 1882, near Omaha, Neb. On July 11, 1898, she married August Stabnow at Cooperstown, N.D. Following their marriage they lived in Cooperstown until they moved to a farm 6 miles northeast of Greenwood. They retired from farming and moved to the city of Greenwood in Nov. 1944. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in July 1948.


Surviving are one son, Leroy Stabnow, Mellen two daughters, Mrs. Vaner (Anna) Lindgren, Owen Mrs. Vern (Luella) Severson, Greenwood 18 grandchildren 25 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Eliza Williams, Harlan Mont. and Mrs. Anna Adams, Valva, N.D.


She was preceded in death by her husband in 1953, two daughters, Bessie Rohloff in 1938 and Ethel Stabnow in 1911, and by one brother.
