Afkend, Martin (1876 - 1963)


GREENWOOD--Martin Afkend, 86, Dodgeville, a former resident of Greenwood and Neillsville, Clark County, died of complications Tuesday at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, where he had been a patient since Friday.


Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Lulloff Funeral Home in Dodgeville by the Rev. M. Witte, pastor of the Dodgeville Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Otter Creek Lutheran Cemetery.


Mr. Afkend was born Aug. 13, 1876, near Cobb and was married April 8, 1903, to Helen Johnson, in Richland Center. They moved to Greenwood in 1918 and made their home in this area until after their golden wedding anniversary in 1953.


Since that time, the couple lived in Dodgeville and also with their children. Mr. Afkend went to Eau Claire several weeks ago for a visit at the home of his daughter, Mrs. May Little. In earlier years he was a farmer and later was in the real estate business in Clark County.


Survivors include his wife two daughters, Mrs. May Little, Eau Claire, and Mrs. Louis (Ruby) Edwards, Loyal a son, Donald Afkend, Neillsville 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.


Three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
