ELVA LEWIS


Elva Lewis, 86, a long-time Loyal, Clark County resident, passed away at 6:45 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 20, 1977 at the Clark County Health Care Center, Owen.


Funeral services for Elva Lewis were conducted by Rev. Charles Sanford at United Methodist church, Loyal at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 22. Mrs. Connie Meyer was the soloist and Mrs. Ruth Zepplin played the organ. Interment was in the Loyal Cemetery. Rinka Funeral Home, Loyal, was in charge of arrangements.


Elva Lewis was born Mary 17, 1897 to William and Martha Catlin in the Town of Sherman and attended the Loyal High School and Catlin School.


She was married to Andrew Lewis on May 1, 1912 at Loyal.


After their marriage they moved to Richland County and moved back to Loyal in 1915, where they purchased a farm in the Town of Loyal and farmed until 1950, when they retired and moved to the City of Loyal.


She was a member of the United Methodist Church, its ladies aid and the Legion Auxiliary.


She is survived by one son, Leslie of Chili one daughter, Betty Lewis of Owen one sister, Mrs. Ben (Mary) Gardow of Eau Claire one brother, Haskel Catlin of Loyal and three grandchildren, Lois Zeigler, Loretta Grobe and Allan Lewis.


Jerome Catlin, Jim Engevold, Harvey Catlin, Bernard Clouse, Richard Catlin and Leon Kuester served as pallbearers.


Preceding her in death were her husband, Andrew three brothers and one daughter in infancy.
