JOSEF KAUCNIK PASSES AWAY

This community was saddened by the passing of Josef Kaucnick at the LeGault Hospital, Owen, Clark County, Tuesday evening Dec. 10, 1940 at 8 o'clock.

Mr. Kaucnik had been in poor health for two years and during this time had hospital care frequently. When he was taken to the hospital Nov. 10 his condition was more serious, after a week at the hospital, his illness seemed to respond to treatment and hopes for his recover were entertained. However, on Friday Dec. 6 his condition was definitely more serious and he grew weaker and he passed away the following Tuesday night, having attained the age of 64 years, 8 months and 21 days. The immediate cause of his death was respiratory paralysis.

Mr. Kaucnik was born in Laiboh, Austria, March 9, 1876, where he grew to manhood and was married Oct. 1901 to Mary Vaerant, soon after coming to this country, where he worked in a factory in Waukegan, Ill. For a number of years. He later moved to Willard, where he engaged in farming for a short time, returning to the city to work until 1914, when he returned to this community, where he purchased the present farm site, 5 miles south of Owen. He soon became a naturalized citizen and developed a fine farm and resided here until his death.

Besides his wife he is survived by five children, Joe Jr. of Cleveland, Ohio Mrs. Marie Huznik of Waukegan, Ill. Vencel of Greensburg, Ohio Mrs. Ann Suda of Greenwood, Mrs. Nelly Hanto of Gurnee, Ill., and 19 grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenwood Saturday morning, Dec. 14, 1940 at 9 o'clock, Rev. J. J. Novak officiated. Interment was made in the Catholic Cemetery.

The pallbearers were Yernei Kovalcha, John Jerian, Anton Modic, Frank Sluga, Frank Chamernik and Mike Kovatch.

Those from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kaucnik, Curley Kaucnik, Waukegan, Ill. Mr. and Mrs. John Hante and children, Gurnee, Ill. Vencel Kaucnik, Greensburg, Ohio.
