OBITUARY OF ERNEST POPPE


Ernest G. Poppe was born Dec. 7, 1865 in Poole, Ontario, Canada. At the age of 9 he came with his parents to Clark County.


June 13, 1892 he was united in marriage to Josephine Ozias and to this union were born nine children, two of whom preceded him in death.


Mr. Poppe passed away at his home in the Town of Longwood on Thursday, July 27, 1939 at the age of 74 years, 7 months and 20 days. Death was caused by rheumatism of the heart. He has been ill for some time.


He was a member of the Longwood Congregational Church since it was first organized and his faithfulness and earnest efforts and generosity will be greatly missed by the whole community.


He leaves to mourn, his wife, two sons, Dan and Rob, five daughters, Mrs. John Scheuerman, Longwood Mrs. Cecelia Bolt, Chicago Mrs. Geo. Wells, Footville Mrs. Olaf Moen, Withee and Grace at home, also four brothers, William of Marble, Minn. John, Charles and Henry of Longwood and 28 grandchildren.


Funeral services were held Monday July 31, 1939 at 2:00 p.m. at the Griebenow-Weirich funeral parlors at Owen and he was laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery, Rev. P.F. Pfaffman officiating. The singers were Mmes. Martin Haas, Lucius Bowen, Harry Thorson and Joe Wnukowcki.


Pallbearers were Geo. Vollrath, Charles Buss, Wm. Tisdale, Wm. Gauthsche, Lynn Hodnett and Ed Langfeldt.


Seven grandchildren acted as flower girls. They were Leatha and Irma Shores, Joyce Wells, Anna May Moen, Beverly, Opal and Delia Poppe.


Those from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Wells and children of Footville Mr. and Mrs. Verne Wells of Brodhead Luke Obern and Mrs. Jack Plant of Oshkosh Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Poppe, Mrs. Warren Poppe and daughter, Verna, Leonard Demento, all of Marble, Minn. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ozias of Muskegan Heights, Mich.
