Robert H. Tischendorf----Killed Near Marathon, Wisconsin

(This surname is sometimes spelled Tiscendorf)

Funeral services were held at the Peace Evangelical church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock for Robert H. Tischendorf, who died Friday night at 10:30 near Marathon City, following an automobile accident. There was a service at the home at 1:30 o'clock and at the church.  Both were conducted by the Rev. J. J. Hoffman.

Mr. Tischendorf's death occurred Friday evening on highway 107 a short way from Marathon City. In attempting to turn around in a farm driveway, Mr. Tischendorf backed his car into a ditch, he walked out on the road to flag a passing car for help and was struck by a car driven by Arthur Boehm of Wausau. Mr. Boehm said that fog and rain impaired Mr. Tischendorf's vision until he was only a few feet away. Mr. Tischendorf suffered broken legs, a broken arm and crushed ribs and was killed instantaneously.

Robert H. Tischendorf was born in Waida, Weimar, Germany on January 15, 1865 and was 71 years, 7 months and 26 days old at the time of death. He grew to manhood in Germany and served in the German Army prior to Sept. 29, 1889, when he was united in marriage to Miss Olga Steinhauser, who passed away April 30, 1933.

Mr. and Mrs. Tischendorf immigrated to Dorchester from Germany in 1891 and lived a short time in the village before moving to their present farm home where they have since lived.

To this union were born nine children, three of whom preceded their father in death.

Two daughters, Clara, Mrs. Ernest Hancock, Los Angeles, Calif., and Helen, Mrs. John Mueller, Dorchester, and four sons, William of Dorchester, Walter of Viroqua, Harry of Park Falls, and Paul of Dorchester mourn his loss. He also leaves sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Reinhold Koehler of Los Angeles, Calif., and three brothers Gustave, Otto and Richard Tischendorf, all of Dorchester, Clark Co., Wisconsin.

Because of his many years here, Mr. Tischendorf was well known and respected citizen of the community. His friends join us in offering words of comfort to his family after their sad loss.

Burial took place at the Peace cemetery, just north of town with four sons, William, Walter, Harry and Paul Tischendorf acting as pallbearers. Flower girls were four granddaughters, Deloris, Shirley and Fern Tischendorf of Park Falls.

Among those from away to attend the services were  Mr. and Mrs. Harry Tischendorf and family of Park Falls, Mrs. Roland of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. August Gribowski, Mrs. John Moore and Mrs. Joseph Heindl of the town of Frankfort, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Tischendorf and family and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lent of Virocqua, and Mr. and Mrs. J. Christianson of Colby, Wisconsin.
