Donald Syryczuk, 75, of Lublin, died May 19, 1999 in his home. Donald was born April 11, 1924 in Lublin to Andrew and Anna (Nowak) Syryczuk. He married Victoria Szemraj October 29, 1949 t St. Mary's
Polish National Catholic Church in Lublin by Father Polaszewski.


The Thorp Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements with visitation from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., Friday May 21.


The funeral services were held Saturday, May 22, 1999 at St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Church in Lublin with Father John Kutek and Father Marion Talaga officiating. Burial was made in the parish cemetery. The Lublin Legion and VFW of Gilman had the military services and were pallbearers. Donald's pilot Jim Sobczynski of Barrington, IL was his honorary pallbearer with which he flew many missions in World War II.


He graduated from the Gilman High School and joined the Air Force. He served 4 years in the battles and campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and air offensive Europe as a gunner and Radio operator on a B26 Marauder. He flew 51 missions.


After service with his wife he farmed for 41 years in Lublin. During this time he was 17 years on the Gilman School Board as a director and president and 18 years as a clerk for the Town of Roosevelt.


Survivors include his wife one son Andrew (Alice) of Lublin four grandsons: Mark, Donald, Douglas and Nicholas, all of Lublin two brothers: John (Regina) of Lublin, Irving of Thorp and one sister, Virginia (Mike) Ustianowski of Lublin and many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Lorraine Flodin.
