JOHN L. DAMGAARD


Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 17, at the Elm Lawn Chapel, Elmhurst, Ill., for John L. Damgaard, 70, route 1, Willard, Clark County, who passed away at 4:45 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1976 at the Clark County Health Care Center, Owen.


Rev. David Getz officiated and burial was made in the Elm Lawn Cemetery, Elmhurst, Ill. Kraut-Maurina Funeral Home, Owen, was in charge of arrangements.


John L. Damgaard was born on March 12, 1906, in Denmark. He came to Chicago from Denmark at age 18, where he worked as a truck driver. In 1931, he married Gertrude Clausen in Chicago, who passed away on June 26, 1961. From 1946 to 1954, they farmed at Globe, and later moved back to Chicago, where he worked as a trucker, and later as a maintenance man at the Belland Hotel. He had lived with his daughter in Willard before moving to the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen.


Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Wilbert (Doris) Schultz, Camanche, Iowa, and Mrs. William (Mary) Hribar, Willard one son, John E. Damgaard, Clinton, Iowa two sisters, Mrs. Johanna Bovling, Fowler, Col., and Mrs. Kristine Bovling, Manganola, Col. one brother, James L. Damgaard, Fowler, Col. and seven grandchildren.

Damgaard, John L. (13 Mar 1906 – 15 Dec 1976)

John L. Damgaard, aged 70, of R. R. #1, Willard, passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 1976 at the Clark County Health Care Center.

The funeral for the deceased was held Friday, December 17 at 1:30 p.m. at the Elm Town Chapel in Elmhurst, Illinois. Burial took place at the Elm Town Cemetery in Elmhurst. The Kraut-Maurina Funeral Home in Owen was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Damgaard was born in Denmark on March 13, 1906. At the age of 18 he came from Denmark to Chicago, where he worked as a truck driver. From 1946 to 1954 he farmed at Globe, Wisconsin, then moved back to Chicago and again drove a truck. Later he worked as a maintenance man for the Belland Hotel in Chicago.

During his later years before going to Clark County Health Care Center, he lived with his daughter, Mrs. William Hribar, in Willard.

The deceased was married to Gertrude Clausen, who passed away on June 26, 1961.

Mr. Damgaard is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Wilbert (Doris) Schultz of Comanche, Iowa, Mrs. William (Mary) Hrobar of Willard, Wisconsin; one son, John E. Damgaard of Clinton, Iowa.

He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Johana Bovling of Fowler, Colorado, Mrs. Kirstine Bovling of Manganola, Colorado, and one brother, James L. Damgaard of Fowler, Colorado.

Mr. Damgaard is survived by seven grandchildren.
