Carl Pieper--Military Rites for Civil War Veteran


Military rites were given Carl Pieper, 84 years old, Civil War Veteran, whose funeral was held at the Evangelical Trinity Lutheran Church on Monday. Services were held at 1:00 P.M. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Albertina Rohloff, and at 2:00 P.M. at the church with the Reverend H. F. Leschensky officiating. Burial was made in family lot in the parish Cemetery with members of the American Legion post as honorary escort and firing squad.


Mr. Pieper was born April 6, 1846 in Pomerania, Germany and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in his native land. In 1857, he came to America and took up his residence at Lebanon near Watertown, Wisconsin. When the call came for volunteers in the War of the Rebellion, he enlisted in Company B, 52nd Wisconsin Infantry and served his term in the Union Army.


Following his honorable discharge he returned to Lebanon and was married March 16, 1969 to Miss Albertina Brehmer. Seven children were born to them, all of whom survive their parents. The mother, who came here in 1901 with the father to reside at the Rohloff home, died last April 15th. Mr. Pieper died at 5:38 A.M. last Friday.


The children are August and Frank Pieper and Mrs. Helen Sell, town of Beaver Carl Pieper Jr., Clyman, Wisconsin Robert Pieper, Burnett, Wisconsin Mrs. Mathilda Sell, Abbotsford and Mrs. Albertina Rohloff. There are 26 grandchildren. He is also survived by 3 brothers and 1 sister Ferdinand Pieper, Iron Ridge William Pieper, Burnett and Mrs. Wilhelmine Ferare, Reeseville, Wisconsin.


Although Mr. Pieper had been suffering from liver trouble for several years, he was in his usual sate of health until Thursday when he sank into a sleeper from which he failed to arouse.


Those who attended the funeral from away were Charles Pieper, Clyman, Wisconsin Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pieper and daughter Cora from Burnett, Wisconsin Mr. and Mrs. Herman Pieper, Iron Ridge Mr. and Mrs. August Ferari and son Willie of Lowell Mrs. Albert Zietlow and son Adolph from Juneau William Reinke, Juneau Mr. Fred Pieper, Burnett Mrs. Albert Prust Mr. and Mrs. August Poetter of Juneau Mr. Robert Sell, Beaver Dam and Mr. Herman Rohrschneider, Oak Grove, Wisconsin.


The Tribune with the many friends of the deceased join in extending heartfelt sympathy to those who mourn his loss.
