Marek, Sophie (1910 - 1999)

 

Sophie Marek, 88, formeral of Morgan Plaza, Thorp, WI, died Tuesday, Janury 5, 1999 at Victory Medical Center Nursing Home, Stanley, WI.


Sophie Pabich was born March 5, 1910 in Chicago, IL to John and Stella (Sniegowski) Pabich and moved to the Thorp area in 1921. She was united in marriage October 22, 1935 to Walter Marek at St. Hedwig's Catholic Church, Thorp, WI. They lived and farmed in the Town of Withee, rural Thorp until 1984 when she became a resident of the Morgan Plaza, Thorp. She was a member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women and a member of St. Bernard's-St. Hedwig's Catholic church, Thorp for many years.


Surviving are four daughters: Marie Kaczmarcik of Thorp, WI, Gertrude (Alex) Witkus of Rochester, MN, Carolyn (Gary) Pioske, Minnetonka, MN, Christine (Daughter) Cottogim, Maxwell, TX 19 Grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 1 Great great-grandchild two sisters: Frances Marek and Evelyn Kobylinski, both of Thorp. She was preceded in death by her parents 1 son Tony, 1 daughter Frances, 1 brother and 1 sister.


Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 8, 1999 at St. Bernard's-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church, Thorp, WI with Rev. John Puerner officiating. Burial was in St. Hedwig's Cemetery, Thorp. Grandsons served as pallbearers.
