John J. Jones, for many years a prominent businessman in this city, passed away at his home Sunday morning at 8:00 o'clock. Some weeks ago Mr. Jones suffered a stroke which caused his death.


John J. Jones was born in Davis County, Iowa, on December 21, 1862 and passed away at his home in this city on April 2, 1933, at the age of 70 years, 3 months and 16 days.


He was united in marriage to Agnes Merritt of Endeavor, December 26, 1880.


He was engaged in carpentry and has spent his last 13 years in Greenwood, working in his carpenter shop. He was also a resident of Dalton and Hancock, Wis., for several years before coming to Greenwood. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Greenwood.


The body was taken to Endeavor by G. W. Bishop for burial Wednesday afternoon, April 5th. The Masons of Endeavor took charge of the funeral services. He was laid to rest in the Moundville cemetery.


He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and one niece in California and a host of friends.


Deceased was a kind and loving husband and neighbor and while a resident in this city gained the friendship of many people who extend Mrs. Jones their heartfelt sympathy.
