Edna N. Damert (1913 - 2001)

NEILLSVILLE--Edna N. Damert, 87, of Neillsville, died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at St. Josephs Hospital in Marshfield.

Funeral services for Edna will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville with pastor Timothy Biebert officiating. Music will be provided by Becky Lange, organist.

Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Dan Elmhorst, Calvin Gerhardt, Pete Erickson, Earl Luchterhand, Floyd Schoen and Allen Scott.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. Friday at the church.

The Gesche Funeral Home is assisting Ednas family with the arrangements.

Edna Nettie Damert was born on May 7, 1913, in Arpin, the daughter of Albert and Emma (nee Hauser) Grimm. She attended school in Arpin and Marshfield and then was united in marriage to Lawrence Damert in June 1930 in Arpin. After their marriage, they lived near Babcock and later they moved to a farm in Marshfield. In 1937 they moved to the Neillsville area where they farmed until retiring in 1979. Lawrence died in 1982. Edna was a member of St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aide. She also belonged to the Good Neighbors Homemakers Club. She enjoyed making crafts, doing crossword puzzles and crocheting.

She is survived by two daughters, Marjorie Lau of Stratford and Audrey Meyer of Neillsville two sons, Leonard (Carol) Damert of Cassville and David (Joy) Damert of Portland, Ore. 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren one brother, Glenn (Dorothy) Grimm of Harrisburg, Pa. two sisters-in-law, Vera Grimm of New Glarus and Gertrude DeMert of Neillsville one aunt, Bertha Serchen of Marshfield and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Lawrence, she was preceded in death by her parents four sisters, Margaret, Rachelle, Marie and Alma one brother, Marvin and one son-in-law, Arthur Lau.
