HOME GLEANINGS--Cole, Tony (Mar 1879 - 1902)

A horrible affair is reported to the Gleaner from Thorp. Tony Cole was to have been married Tuesday morning to Anna Neiman at the Catholic church and all preparations had been made for the celebration of the event the groom having built a bowery for a dance. When the hour set for the wedding came, no groom appeared. He had not appeared during the day, but the relatives and guests went on with the merry making nevertheless until 2:30 yesterday morning the groom to-have-been walked into the kitchen of the bride's home where the celebration was taking place and slashed her three times with an axe, once on the heart, the second on the shoulder and the third in the waist. The man fled, and at last reports is at large. A note was found a few hours after, stating that he would be found dead two miles from there. The girl is alive but little hopes of her recovery are held.
