Benefit Fair a Great Success (24 November 1911)

The fair and supper given by the Circle ladies was a great success financially and socially.  Many people from the country were present. The proceeds from the supper and sale of dolls, fancy work, candies, etc., amounted to $87.40, including the cash donations.  Half of this amount is to be sent to the Relief Committee of the Black River Falls flood sufferers, and the other half is to go to the Circle’s treasury. The prizes which were offered by various business men were awarded as follows:

Viva Drake won the box of chocolates offered by G. E. Amidon to the girl who dressed the doll the best.

Mrs. H. B. Holmes won the sack of flour given by Chas Neinas for the best loaf of bread.

Mrs. Dan Rausch won the 5 lb. pail of lard given by Fred Hart to the lady making the best doughnuts.

Helen Creigo won the scarf given by H. C. Witte and Sadie Wegner the mittens given by Mr. Witte.

Mrs. Floyd Winn won a jardinière offered by Knorr & Rausch for the apron donated and selling for the best price; also the sewing table given by August Hammler for the best price.

Miss Myrtie Knorr won the perfume given by G. E. Amidon to the young lady donating the piece of fancy work selling best.

Mrs. Myron Osgood’s baby in a draw with 4 others won the baby bonnet given by P. J. Kemmeter.

Jerry Daughhetee won the mittens given by P. J. Kemmeter for the man bringing in the biggest load of people.

Morris Jones being the oldest man present won the suspenders offered by August Snyder.

Harry Eide who drove the farthest to attend this sale gets his horse shod by David Steele, free.

Mr. Witte as the man paying the largest supper bill won the horse whip given by John Bladl.

There was little or no sale for cakes, only one of the 5 competing being sold. So of the 4 remaining the prize was awarded to the one which pleased the palate of the two judges and the prize awarded to Mrs. Lew Smith. The judges took the cake, a nut cake, in exchange for the prize.
