Glasshof, Fred (7 APR 1871 - 1 APR 1960)

Fred Glasshof, one of the pioneers of this community, passed away of old age infirmities at the Havenet Home at Owen on Friday, April 1, 1960.  He had reached the ripe old age of 88 years, 11 months and 24 days.  He had been in the Havenet home about a week, but had suffered a stroke previously.

Mr. Glasshof, who was born in New Holstein, Wis. on April 7, 1871, had made his home in the Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) community for many years.

He was an early settler here and one of the old timers who made their living as woodsmen and teamsters in the lumber camps.  He operated a farm in this vicinity for many years and after retirement came to the city of Thorp where he resided until death.

His wife, the former Effie La Flex, passed away many years ago.

He is survived by three sons, Wm. Glasshof of Anchorage, Alaska, Ernest Glasshof, Winneconne, Wis., and Chester Glasshof of Thorp;  three brothers, henry and Oscar Glasshof, Los Angeles, Calif., four sisters, Mrs. Clara Broseche, Mrs. Hattie Welch, Mrs. Irene Morganstern and Mrs. Josephine Corrigan of Los Angeles.

Funeral services were held at the Thorp Funeral Home Monday afternoon, April 4th, the Rev. Cecil Ward officiating and interment followed in the Reseburg Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Jack Dallas, Jack Boardman, Art Jacque, Hugh Schauers, Louis Boardman, and Clarence Fisher.
