Verhalen, Bonnie Rae (Marriage - 7 August 1965)

Wedding vows were exchanged Saturday in a nuptial mass in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Loyal, by Miss Bonnie Rae Verhalen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Verhalen of Rt. 2, Loyal, and George A. Barten, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Barten of Rt. 1, Granton. The Rev. Norbert E. King officiated.

Baskets of white gladioli and blue pompons graced the church altar for the double ring ceremony.

For her wedding the bride, who was given in marriage by her father, chose a floor-length gown of nylon sheer over taffeta fashioned with a bateau neckline enhanced with lace appliqués. A fitted midriff topped the bouffant skirt styled with scattered appliqués and a row of lace near the hemline. The full back ended in a chapel sweep with a bow trim at the back waistline. Her bouffant illusion veil was secured to a nylon sheer bow with rose buds and pearlized orange blossoms.  She carried a cascade arrangement of pink roses and white carnations entwined with ivy.

Miss Nancy Barten, sister of the groom, was her maid-of-honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Betty Loos of Loyal, and Miss Claudette Kuehling of Unity.

The groom was attended by the bride’s brother, Kenneth Verhalen of Loyal.  Groomsmen were Ray Rondorf of Greenwood and Terry Abrahamson of Milwaukee.  Ushers were John Repp and Tom Spranger.

Nuptial music was furnished by St. Anthony’s choir.

The day’s activities included a reception at the bride’s home, a supper in the church parlors and a dance in the evening.

Mrs. Barton, a 1962 graduate of Loyal High School, has been employed in Marshfield.  Her husband, a 1961 graduate of Granton High School, has employment in a paper company in Wisconsin Rapids.  On their return from a wedding trip to the Black Hills, they will reside in Wisconsin Rapids.
