Drescher, Donald Lynn (5 September 1915 - 16 July 1965)

 

Donald Lynn Drescher, 49, of Rt. 1 Greenwood, died Friday in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.  Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the United Church of Christ in Neillsville. The Rev. W. C. Koehler officiated.  Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

 

Mr. Drescher was born September 5, 1915, in the Town of Grant, the son of Arthur and Martha (Nitschke) Drescher, Sr.  He received his education in schools of Clark County and was graduated from Neillsville High School in 1933. He attended officers’ training school at Ft. Bolivar, Va., after entering the service of his country in March 1941.  He served as a first lieutenant in the 746th Engineer battalion while serving overseas.  He was discharged from service in January, 1945.

 

Since 1948 he had been engaged in farming in the Town of Weston.  He served as treasurer of the Forman School District for several years.  On March 29, 1941, he was married to the former Irene Bartz in Waukon, Ia.

 

He was a member of the United Chruch of Christ, and the Wilson-Heintz Post, No. 2241, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

 

Mr. Drescher is survived by his wife; a son, Wayne; and a daughter, Sandra, both of Greenwood; a sister, Mrs. Eugene (Vivian) Thiede, of Granton; two brothers, Norman Drescher of Tomah, and Arthur F. Drescher of Neillsville.

 

Pallbearers were: Henry and Herman Seebandt, Wilmer Lueck, Leon Metcalf, Clarence Ratsch and Ernest Bird.

 

The United Church of Christ quartet, accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott, sang, "Jesus Savior Pilot Me" and "Abide with Me".

 

People from out of town here for the service were: Mrs. Myrtle Behm of Cameron; Ethel Behm of Eagle River; Mr. and Mrs. Elwyn Larsen of Janesville; Mrs. Robert Nicholson of Fairchild; William Janzer of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Haase of Neenah; Mrs. Lydia Drescher and Mrs. Mohler of Chicago, Ill.

 

Many relatives and friends from Loyal, Marshfield, Greenwood and Granton also attended the service.

 

Military rites were conducted at the graveside by the V. F. W., who attended in a body.

 

Color bearers were: Tom Flynn and Robert Shaw. The firing squad consisted of: Delbert C. Struble, Mike Krultz, Jr., Jim Hauge, heron Van Gorden, and Arne Matheson. Bugler was DuWayne Dux.
