Klapatauskas, Mike (27 OCT 1924-03 FEB 2012)

Mike Klapatauskas, 87, Marshfield, died on Friday evening, Feb. 3, 2012, at the Marshfield Care Center, under the care of Ministry Home Hospice. A Mass of Christian burial was held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield. Rev. Samuel Martin officiated. St. John’s Funeral Choir provided the music along with organist Suzanne Golden. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post#54 of Marshfield.

Mike Klapatauskas was born on Oct. 27. 1924, in Thorp, to Mike and Cazimera (nee Jazdwskas) Klapatauskas. He attended school at Eastside Butler School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacifis Theatre from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1946.. He married Lorraine Kitzhaber on June 19, 1946, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greenwood. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversity in 2011. Mike farmed in the Thorp area, co-owned F&M Garage in Willard, and worked in the mobile home industry. They managed apartment buildings in Stevens Point and at Twin Oaks in Marshfield, where they lived since 1989. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, St. John’s Conference of St. Vincent de Paul, Knights of Columbus, John Eisen Council #1799, and the American Legion Post #54 of Marshfield. He volunteered at St. John’s and St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; three children, Ray (LaVonne) Klapatauskas, Wausau, Donna (Vern) Vetterkind, Rothchild, and Diane (John) Pergolski, Wausau; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Julius Klapatauskas, Thorp; and three sisters, Mary Fischer, Chicago, Jo Wind, Chicago, and Agnes Debevec, Greenwood.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Klapatauskas and one in infancy; and five sisters, Stella Dulinsky, Anne Klatatauskas, Martha Podobnik, Frances Vallone and Katie Gregorich.
