Neillsville Hi-Lites (4 March 1965)


Twenty students were selected Tuesday to represent Neillsville High School in forensic contests ahead.  They were selected as a result of school competition, with Miss Grace Walsh of Wisconsin State University - Eau Claire acting as judge.


The high school group will have its first outside competition in the Cloverbelt speech contest to be held at Owen-Withee High School Saturday, March 6.


The following were selected:


In four-minute speech - Kathy Bauer and Elsbeth Rizner, with Lorraine Short as alternate.


Original oration - Mary Ann Turczyn and Sandy Siebert, with Wendy Schield as alternate


Public address - Mary Hachmeister and Pat Mech, with Marilyn Anding as alternate


Play reading - "the Engagement," by Kivi, with a cast composed of Darwin Smith, Wayne Gross, David Thornton and Bonnie Foemmel.


Extemporaneous speaking - Sherri Ray and Lorraine Short.


Declamation - Linda Graves, Ann Lukes and Nancy Hicks


Non-original orations - Patty Schultz and Susan Hopfer, with Gary Grocholski as alternate.


Interpretive reading of prose - Sue Flynn, Linda Graves and Sandy Siebert


Interpretive reading of poetry - Barbara Svetlik, Nancy Hicks and Joann Grether


Mrs. Harriette Hoesly and Thomas Strick are the coaches.


Kevin Langreck, a senior, has been announced at the winner of the preliminary examination given February 11 in the contest sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America, Wisconsin section. The contest is open to seniors and juniors.


Following in the local contest were Wayne Gross and Michael Nikula.


By winning the local contest, Langreck qualifies to compete in the finals which are scheduled for March 27.  Testing centers have not yet been announced.
