Stabnow, Theresa (25 July 1887 - 12 February 1965)

 

Mrs. Walter Stabnow, 77, of Neillsville died Friday at her home.  Funeral services were held Monday morning from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville, with the Rev. Bernard T. Kelly officiating.  Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

 

Mrs. Stabnow, the former Theresa Gries, was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Herr) Gries. She was born July 25, 1887, in Manitowoc County.  She attended schools there and in Marathon County, and taught school for several years prior to her marriage to Walter Stabnow October 17, 1911, in Greenwood.  The Stabnows lived in Greenwood until 1951, when they moved to Neillsville.

 

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Parish Council of Catholic Women and St. Mary’s Circle. The Parish Council of Catholic Women held a rosary service Sunday afternoon at the Georgas Funeral Home. A general rosary service was said Sunday evening by St. Mary’s Circle.

 

Mrs. Stabnow is survived by her husband; three children, Mrs. Theodore (Imogene) Ampe of Neillsville, Walter W. Stabnow of St. Paul, Minn., and Lawrence H. Stabnow of Galveston, Tex.; four sisters, Mrs. Albert (Mary) Wagner of St. Mazianz, Mrs. James (Martha) Syth of Jim Falls, Mrs. Alice Stiefvater of Greenwood and Mrs. Kathrine Lindner of Greenwood.  Other survivors include 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

 

Pallbearers were: Vincent and Bob Lindner, Ted, Tom and Stephen Wagner and Gene Stiefvater.

 

Those attending the services were: Lawrence Stabnow, USCG, Galveston, Tex.; Mr. and Mrs. James Syth of Jim Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Dale Stabnow of Tomah; Gene Stiefvater of Wauwatosa; Mr. and Mrs. John Nowak and Jerry Ampe of Milwaukee; Steve Wagner of Valders; Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Wagner of Newton; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lindner of New Berlin; those from Marshfield were: Mr. and Mrs. Willard Frome; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Hughes; Mr. and Mrs. David Weber; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ampe; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Olson; and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Muckel; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Linder and Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Lindner of Loyal; Mr. and Mrs. Pat Clendenning of Wausau; Mrs. Alice Stiefvater, Mrs. Frieda Ampe, Harold Stabnow, Mrs. Lila Stabnow, Mrs. George Knier, Mrs. William Stabnow, Mrs. Rita Stewart, and Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Opdyke, all of Greenwood; Mrs. Davis Hautala of Highwood, Ill.; and Mr. and Mrs. Art Wagner of St. Nazianz.
