Steinberg, Otto (12 August 1879 - 14 January 1964)

 

Funeral services for Otto Steinberg, 85, who died Thursday in Neillsville, were held Monday afternoon from St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Rev. Norman W. Lindloff officiated.  Burial was made in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Globe.

 

Mr. Steinberg was born August 12, 1879, in Germany, coming with his parents, while still a small child.  He attended rural schools of Clark County.  On April 22, 1908, he was married to the former Laura Dudei, who died in November 1964.

 

The family engaged in farming and operated a general store in Columbia for many years.  After selling the store they farmed from 1935 to 1945 in the Fairchild area.  In 1945, they moved to Neillsville.

 

Mr. Steinberg is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Martha) Jankowsky of Burlington, Mrs. Edna Cummins of San Diego, Cal., and Mrs. Victor (Hazel) Schwartz, of Truman, Minn.; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Hauge of King, Mrs. Theresa Foster of Marshfield, and Mrs. Bertha Scheffler of Custer, Mich.; a brother, Albert of Fargo, N. D.; and seven grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother, Reinhold and two sisters, Pauline Schoenherr and Anna Quast.

 

Funeral arrangements were made by the Georgas Funeral Home.

 

Pallbearers were: Herman Hagedorn, Herbert Kurth, Theodore Schoenherr, Fred Quast, Arnold Karl, and Gene Jepsen.  Children of the St. John’s Lutheran School, accompanied by Victor Lehmann, sang, "I’m But a Stranger Here," and "I Fall Asleep in Jesus’ Wounds."

 

People from away attending were: Mrs. Edna Cummings of San Diego, Cal.; Mr. and Mrs. Victor Schwartz of Truman, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Jankowsky and Judy of Burlington; Mrs. Theresa Foster of Marshfield; and Vernon Foster of Schofield.
