Anderson, Elmer (? - 13 (?) December 1964)

Clark County’s Coroner Robert Lulloff said Wednesday that he had not made a finding as yet in the death of Elmer Anderson, about 63, a bachelor of Rt. 2, Owen.

Anderson was found on the floor of his home about 8:35 a.m. Sunday with two bullet wounds in his forehead.

"We’re assuming that it was suicide," Lulloff said; "but there are some questions still unanswered."

He explained that one bullet "grazed" Anderson’s forehead, cutting the skin. The other bullet went into the head. An autopsy performed in Marshfield revealed that the bullet which entered the head shattered inside.

One .22 rifle shell jacket was found near Anderson’s body.  A second was in the chamber of the .22 rifle which was found on the floor nearby.

The puzzle, according to the coroner, is that officials were unable to find anyplace in the three-room house where a bullet had struck.

Anderson’s body was found by Joe Decker, a neighbor, who told officers he had stropped to take Anderson to town. Anderson did not have a car.

Lulloff said he apparently died some time Saturday night or early Sunday morning.  He said that the last person to see him alive, insofar as official investigation had uncovered, was a niece, Mrs. Alva Peterson.  He said, she reported driving by the Anderson house late Saturday afternoon and seeing Mr. Anderson in the yard.
