O’Konski, Mr. & Mrs. Harry (Gold - 15 OCT 1962)

 

A solemn mass of thanksgiving was read Saturday morning, Oct. 13, 1962, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Owen for Mr. and Mrs. Harry O’Konski, who were celebrating their golden wedding anniversary.

 

 

Terrie Warden, the youngest grandchild present, escorted her grandparents to the altar.

 

The Rev. H.L. Crubel officiated at the mass.

 

The remainder of the festivities were held at St. Hedwig’s Hall at Thorp, and included a breakfast for the immediate family.

 

Then Mr. an dMrs. O’Konski greeted their many friends, relatives and neighbors at a 6:00 o’clock dinner and dance later that evening.  Approximately 200 persons were present.

 

Mrs. O’Konski wore a gold suit with matching hat and a white orchid corsage.  Her maid of honor of 50 years ago, Mrs. Anton Dombrowski of Thorp had a purple orchid. The best man, Joe Konieczny, of Stanley, was also present.

 

The anniversary cake was decorated with bells and miniature light and flanked with arrangements of fall flowers in gold, bronze and yellow.  There was also a gaily lit gold tree with the 50 years attached to it.

 

Harry O’Konski and Della Zawacki were married in Stanley Oct. 15, 1912.

 

Mr. O’Konski was born in Poland Feb. 2, ????, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John O’Konski.  He located in St. Louis, Mo., when just coming to the United States, and later settled in Wisconsin.  He was a logger in the Stanley and Thorp area.

 

Mrs. O’Konski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Zawacki, was born in Thorp Jan. 1, 1895.  She was educated in that city and worked in Chicago before her marriage.

 

After their marriage the O’Konski’s lived in Stanley, and lived on their present farm near Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) the past 20 years.

 

Children of the anniversary couple are Mrs. W.R. (Viola) Fraley, Chicago; Mrs. Jack (Cecelia) Warden, Los Angeles, Calif.; Miss Mary Ann O’Konski, Chicago; Edward O’Konski, Chicago; Donald O’Konski, at home, and Mrs. Leo (Amy) Stewart, Withee.  They also have 12 grandchildren.
