  Roth, George N. Sr. #2 (6 Oct. 1889 - 17 Mar. 1959)

George N. Roth, 69, died at his home in Milwaukee at 7 p.m. March 17 of a lingering illness.

The body was taken to the Weiand Funeral Home in Milwaukee where it reposed in state Wednesday evening.  A Rosary was held there and many former Loyal residents called there that evening.  The same night the body was brought to the Myre Funeral Home in Loyal. 

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Norbert King officiating and burial was in the parish cemetery.

George Roth was born in Audubon, Iowa, October 6, 1889.

He was married to Stella Hemphill at Milford, Iowa, Feb. 14, 1914.  They came to the Loyal area in 1919 and settled on a farm in the town of Loyal.  In 1948 Mr. Roth retired from farming and moved into the city of Loyal.  For the past eight years he has lived in Milwaukee.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Milwaukee and the Holy Name Society.

Surviving are his wife; five sons, George Jr., Unity, Donald of Minneapolis, Raphael and Virgil of Milwaukee, and Joseph of Carpentersville, Ill.; and four daughters, Mrs. Cornelius (Bernadine) Foster of West Bend, Mrs. Kenneth (Margaret) Foster and Rita of Milwaukee, and Mrs. John (Loretta) Foster of Marshfield.

Thirty-two grandchildren, two brothers, and four sisters are also among the survivors.

A son, Leonard, died in 1947 and one sister preceded Mr. Roth in Death.

Pallbearers were James Bertz, Leon Hoeser, Alvin Miller, John Bannach, Lawrence Cowles, and Max Langfeldt.

Those from away who attended the rites were:  Mrs. George Roth, Mr. and Mrs. Raphael Roth and family; Virgil Roth, Rita Roth, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Foster and family; Ambrose Murphy, Mrs. Anton Finco and Miss Genevieve Schmith, all of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. George Roth Jr. and family, Unity; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Roth and family, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Roth, Carpentersville, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Foster and family, West Bend; Mrs. and Mrs. John Foster, Mrs. Theresa Foster, and Herman Martens, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Roth, Ashton, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Woodley and Frank Hemphill and sons, Milford, Iowa; Miss Mae McGuire and Mrs. Catherine Hemphill, Spencer, Iowa; and Mrs. Joe Murphy, Mauston.
