Mr. and Mrs. August Broker made an auto trip to the county seat Tuesday.

Arthur Seifert came from Milwaukee Tuesday of last week to look after his real estate holdings.

Amata Crance is assisting in the household mattress at the Aug. Broker home.

Mrs. Ross Hart improved the interior of her home the fore part of last week in the matter of plastering, etc.  Julius Kramer did the work.

Mrs. Raymond came up from Pittsville Tuesday of last week to make Lindsey friends a visit.

Merchant Broker had business in Marshfield last Friday.  His daughter Mabel came back with him to spend Sunday at home.  He took her back Monday morning.

Mr. Dalrympl has recently been building woven wire fences on his place east of town.

Corn cutting is the next order on the program.  J.R. Crouch and Otto Bredeman will be the first to begin operations in this section.

County Supt. Varney was seen in town Wednesday of last week.

The drought was broken here by a splendid rain Tuesday night of last week.

W.J. Robinson, who went with his son warren to Grand Rapids High School, returned Wednesday of last week.

No word has been received from State Supt Cary.  Lindsey school is likely to be postponed another week.

Next Sunday, Rev Peckham is expected to preach in Lindsey Church.  It will be his first sermon after conference, then every other Sunday regularly.  Lindsey has a splendid Sunday school which begins at 10 a.m., and the sermon is at 11.

Mr. and Mrs. Chris Holseth from the Painton district were callers at the J.R. Crouch home Sunday.

Mrs. Simpson and daughter Opal were passengers on last Friday’s train for Grand Rapids to remain over Sunday, returning Monday.

Doctor and Mrs. Lovesee drove to Marshfield Saturday.

Pat Wilsey was up with his oil wagon from Pittsville Tuesday of last week to supply the Opelt sotre.

Tuesday of last week a breakdown on the engine delayed the train about an hour on its return trip.

Aug. Broker had his oil tank replenished by the oil wagon from Neillsville on Saturday.

P.J. Tilton, Art Seifert, Mrs. Jas. Wheelock and brother Tom Welsch were those attending the Neillsville fair from here.

Addie Angel has secured the Painton School but your correspondent has not learned the date of beginning.

Minnie Painton was a passenger on the outgoing train Monday for the cranberry fields.

Dus. Johnson had the contract of building a new abutment under the iron bridge across the Lindsey Creek just over the county line on the Washburn Road.  Howard White, H. Johnson and Roland Washburn were his assistants, completing the work about noon last Friday.

Clerk Robinson returned from his trip to Grand Rapids Wednesday evening of last week and on arriving home he learned that county superintendent Varney had been in Lindsey that day but did not get out of his buggy, only talking with Notary LeDuc a few moments.  That would surely indicate that he had no conciliatory proposition to make to the board looking to a settlement of the existing difficulty between them.

A.J. Prest was to Neillsville fair last week with his fine Guernsey’s and captured four first and four second prizes, and the Florence bull took sweepstakes over a class of seven prize bulls of all breeds.  Mr. Prest expressed himself as highly pleased with the outcome of his fair trips.

W.J. Robinson was reported as picking his seed corn last Friday.  He says he prefers picking before the corn is cut.  This affords a splendid opportunity, not for selecting the largest ears exactly, but the ripest ones and also to note the characteristics of the stalks compared with the others.  He states also that this method obviates the necessity of testing as when properly dried it is sure to grow.  He reports that his picking this season is fourteen days earlier than last year and says this is not guessing at it for the following dates are given to show each year since he has been in Wood Co.  They are as follows:

Mrs. Broker and daughter Nellie were to Lynn Saturday to an Eastern Star party at Mrs. Washburn’s.

Mrs. Anderson from Progress did shopping here between trains on Monday.

Otto Bredeman reports the recovery of his horse that was sick last week.
