Maeder, Gottfried (12 June 1878 - 8 June 1964)

 

Funeral services will be held this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Georgas Funeral Home for Gottfried Maeder, 85, of Humbird, who died Monday in the Community Hospital in Black River Falls.  The Rev. Jacob Grether will officiate. Burial will be made in the Town of Mentor Cemetery.

 

Mr. Maeder was born June 12, 1878, in Switzerland and received his education there.  In 1907 he came to the United States, locating in Freeport, Ill.  He worked on the railroad before coming to Humbird in 1913.

His first marriage took place in 1911 in Freeport, to the former Anna Strahm, who died in 1927.  On August 30, 1928, he was married to the former Marie Wagner in Black River Falls. She is now a resident of Sunset Nursing Home in Fairchild. They farmed in the Humbird area until 1941.  For the last year Mr. and Mrs. Maeder have been residents of the nursing home.

 

Seven children survive. They are: John Blank of Freeport, Ill.; Mrs. Warren (Frieda) Bolling of Milwaukee; Mrs. Anna Hutchmacher of Freeport, Ill.; Alfred Blank of Milwaukee; Fred Maeder of Fenwood; Mrs. Leonard (Ida) Otte of Freeport, Ill.; and Ernest Maeder of Milwaukee; and a step-daughter, Mrs. Frieda Ward of Spokane, Wash.  Other survivors include 16 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon from the Georgas Funeral Home for Gottfried Maeder, 85, of Fairchild. The Rev. Wallace Herman officiated. Burial was made in the Town of Mentor Cemetery near Humbird.

 

Pallbearers were Arthur Christen, Fred Hefty, Rudy Aeschbacher, Max Schenk, Arnold Matti and Bill Aebersold.

 

"Abide With Me" and "Softly and Tenderly" were sung by Edward Maeder.

 

People from away attending the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Fred Maeder, Edward and Ricky Maeder of Fenwood; Mrs. Robert Meter of Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Otte, Mrs. Anna Hutchmacher, Mrs. George Hutchmacher, Mrs. Wayne Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hutchmacher and John Blank, all of Freeport, Ill.; Ernest Maeder, Alfred Blank, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Bolling; and Kenneth Bolling of Milwaukee; Mrs. Owen Werkheiser of Lena, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Van Horn, Mrs. Kate Van Horn, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dunlap of Alma Center; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Emer, Mrs. Emma Gerber, Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Aeschbacher, Mrs. Marie Hefty, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hefty, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Greub, Mr. and Mrs. Edward McGaver, Arthur Christen, Arnold Matti, William Aebersold, and Ernest Aeschbacher, all of Humbird.
