Steiner, Roger Jacob (Ph. D. - 1964)

 

Roger Jacob Steiner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob R. Steiner of Loyal, has received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia.

 

Valedictorian of the Loyal High School Class of 1941, Dr. Steiner studied courses in French, Spanish and Portuguese languages, literatures, philology and lexicography in working for his Ph. D. degree.   He received a Master of Arts degree from Franklin & Marshall College at Lancaster, Pa., in 1945; and a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary in New York City in 1947.

 

Dr. Steiner has served churches in East Harlem (New York City), near Poughkeepsie and Peekskill, N. Y., Chester, Pa., and in the New Lisbon, Necedah and Dellwood circuits of the Methodist Churches in Juneau and Adams Counties.  He also taught and studied in Bordeaux, France, in 1961 and 1962, as an exchange professor.  He presently is teaching French in the University of Delaware, and is in special relationship with the Philadelphia conference of the Methodist Church.

 

Dr. Steiner, his wife, Ida Kathryn, and their three year old son, David, live in Newark, Delaware.
