Kiviko, Gerald E. #2 (31 MAY 1941 - 3 AUG 1961)

A 20-year-old Spencer youth lost his life in an early morning car accident just a short ways from his home at Spencer on Highway 13 Thursday morning, Aug. 3rd, 1961.

Gerald Edwin Kiviko was pronounced dead upon arrival at St. Joseph’s Hospital at Marshfield.  He was the son of William Kiviko and the late Lila (Hautamaki) Kiviko, who passed away in 1956.  Kviko was a resident of this community (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.) until about five years ago when he moved with his family to Spencer.  Unmarried, Kiviko was graduated from the Colby High School with the class of 1960 and was employed by the Milk Products Co. at Spencer, and also served with the National Guard Unit of Abbotsford.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home, Owen.  Rev. Koelemcy of Spencer officiated, with burial being made at Riverside Cemetery where military rites were conducted by members of the National Guard Unit of Abbotsford.  Serving as pallbearers were Dick and Wayne O’Brien, Wayne Meisner, Allan Justmen, Ronnie Meyer, and Arlie Schwantes.  In charge of the floral offerings were Darlene Pfeffer, Marion Miller, Christine Miller, Karen Schiso, Sandy Erickson and Diane Lynn.

Born May 31, 1941 in the Town of Hoard, his tragic death is mourned by his father, step-mother, three sisters, Mrs. Myron (Lois) Anderson, Withee; Mrs. Melvin (Joyce) Mohaus and Mrs. Donald (Sally) Smart, Colby; and two brothers, Roger of Port Edwards, Wis. and John, who is at home.
