Humbird (9 January 1964)

 

The Happy Hour Homemakers will meet Thursday, January 16, in the Bill Staves home.  Mrs. Roy Anderson and Mrs. Bob Green will give the lesson.

 

Happy New Year to all the readers of The Press and the staff and to everyone; let’s try to make it a good year, full of health and happiness.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Christen and daughter of Black River Falls were visitors New Year’s Day at the Arthur Christen home.

 

Oscar Wheiler of Tomah spent a week at the home of Miss Elsie John during the holiday season.

 

Nordahl Fristad and Mahlon and Rudolph Lund spent a day recently at the Stanley Detlinger home in Northfield.

 

Mr. and Mrs. John Greub, Mr. and Mrs. Chet Bailey and Mrs. Freda Zerbel called Sunday afternoon at the Carl Greub home, near Neillsville. Mrs. Greub is better, but is still not too good since her recent illness.

 

Mrs. Mary Johnson was taken to the Black River Falls Hospital Thursday morning to have care for high blood pressure and a heart ailment.  She was some better Sunday.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Larson of Pittsville were visitors Sunday afternoon in the Archie Kirby home, and called at the Chet Bailey home.

 

Mrs. Lucy Gephart was a dinner guest Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Sliter of Merrillan.

 

Charles Gansel of New York and his brother, George Gansel of Garden Valley, were recent visitors at the Will Ringrose home.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Smith, Loretta and Jackie, of Merrillan, were supper guests Sunday of her aunt, Mrs. Elsie Jahn.

 

Our town treasurer never forgets to send out some after Christmas cards so now we will see Tony (Mr. Mayer) sitting at his desk in the bank every Monday morning.

 

John (Jack) Cole was taken to the hospital Friday for treatment and now is being cared for in a nursing home.

 

Col. and Mrs. Neil Hein returned to Mexico on New Year’s Day after spending two weeks with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Hein.  While here Mr. Hein showed picture slides of their trip, in Memorial Home which were much enjoyed by the folks there.

 

Mrs. Cora Stanley was able to come over to the Hein home for Christmas and a short visit. 

 

Mr. and Mrs. Hal Russell of Sparta spent last Saturday evening with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Newton, bringing a decorated cake to celebrate his mother’s birthday. 

 

Mrs. Walter Sheffer and Mrs. Chet Bailey took Mrs. Edmund Noyes to Black River Falls Friday for a check-up.  Mrs. Noyes is improving.

 

Friends will be sorry to hear that Mrs. Albert Van Kirk is again a hospital patient.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Harris and Sharon, and Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Terrell were joined by Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Manthe, Marsha and Mark, of Tomah Saturday, all driving to Madison to attend the wedding and reception of Bruce Harris and Elizabeth Cummings.

 

Mrs. Emma Gerber entertained at supper New Year’s Day; Mr. and Mrs. Roger Ness and family of Eau Claire, Dr. Gaylord Stanley and family of Beresford, S. D., and Mr. and Mrs. Willard Stanley and Randy.

 

Mrs. Matie Smith spent Sunday afternoon with her brother, William Staves.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Art Zerbel spent the holidays with her parents in Willard, and Mrs. Freda Zerbel in Humbird.  Sunday they spent the day at the home of her sister, Mrs. Tony Ulesich.

 

Mrs. Ramona Duerkops and family were Sunday afternoon guests of Mrs. Emma Gerber.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Will Hein visited Mrs. Cora Stanley at Memorial Home in Neillsville Sunday.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Gearing and family of Humbird, and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Gearing of Merrillan, were supper guests Sunday night at the Sidney Gearing home in rural Alma Center.

 

Miss Eula Briggs has left the hospital and is now being cared for in Memorial Home at Neillsville.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Gearing and family were New Year’s supper guests at the Otis Dahl home in Black River Falls. They also called at the Don Peasley home.
