Winiarczyk, Joseph (1887? - 14 JUL 1959)

A Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) man died Tuesday afternoon from injuries received in a head on crash north of Thorp.

Joseph Winiarczyk, 72, died Tuesday following surgery at the Stanley Memorial Hospital from chest and head injuries he received in a head on collision just a few feet north of the Taylor-Clark line on Highway 73, five miles north.

The driver of the other car involved, John Panish, Ladysmith, was released Wednesday from the hospital, having received a sprained ankle and head injuries.

Driving a 1955 Chevrolet station wagon, Panish was going north and Winiarczyk was driving a 1950 Ford, 2-door, was going south.  Taylor County authorities said Winiarczyk apparently was making a left turn into a driveway when the crash occurred.

The accident occurred at 12 noon.  Both cars are reported to be beyond repair.

Clark County Officer David Bertz arrived on the scene soon after the accident and made the initial investigation.  He turned the on-the-scene reports over to Officer George Ehlert, Taylor County, who continued the investigation.

Funeral services for Mr. Winiarczyk will be held at St. Mary’s Church, Lublin on Friday, July 19th at 10 a.m.

Rosary services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Thorp Funeral Home.
